Jankovic hunts down Hantuchova

French Open: Jelena Jankovic

Jelena Jankovic downed Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets to cruise into the quarter-finals of the French Open.

The world number four impressed on Court Phillipe Chatrier on Monday as she recorded a 6-4 6-2 win in one hour and 25 minutes.

Jankovic, a semi-finalist in Paris in 2007 and 2008, was rarely troubled by the 23rd seed, who made 24 unforced errors in a disappointing display.

The former world number one, looking to clinch her maiden grand slam tournament, wrapped up the win on her first match point when Hantuchova misfired a service return.

The Serbian will now play Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan, who knocked out Australia's Jarmila Groth in a battle of two unseeded players.

Shvedova only lost serve once as she claimed a routine 6-4 6-3 triumph to continue her dream run at Roland Garros.

The 22-year-old, ranked world number 36, had never ventured beyond the third round at any Grand Slam prior to this year's French Open but having defeated eighth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in round two, she won't be lacking confidence against Jankovic.
